Here is how May finished... I still don't know what to think about June and the rest of summer here in WI. If anything i think it could end up around normal, but with temps jumping all over to get to those numbers. I just had the #3 warmest spring on record (behind 1977 and 1878)... While March felt warm, April didn't seem that special, and May was just a touch above norm.

Pretty cool stuff going on this past week up here in the Midwest/N Plains. The forested areas have stayed quite a bit WARMER then the open snow covered fields. I've see areas of N. Wi at or near 40F and areas of N. MN above 40F a few days this past week. Areas of S. MN and Iowa have stayed in the freezer with the snow covered corn fields keeping them cold. You really have got to wonder how land use changes over the years have changed the weather in some areas. I"d guess that areas converted to ag stay colder in the winter/warmer in the summer, but i may be wrong.

After having one of the coldest summers on record here in southwest Wisconsin (i'm not complaining, it was about perfect temp), September was BONE dry for over 3 weeks and warm (ended +2F or so for the month) it has no turned VERY wet and cool/cold. The last few days have felt like November, although i think its nothing out of the norm. The avg frost here is around Oct 5 and while we did drop to 36F the other night, there wasn't any widespread frost.
If any of you guys are weather model watchers, the GFS has been continuing to show a storm capable of dropping snow in the midwest not far down the road...

Just a recap of spring from up here in the midwest (Wisconsin). We ended spring below normal on rain (over an inch below) and ended with temp about .7F Below normal. May being the worse at almost 2F below normal (brrr).
I think it has been pretty nice, just no extended period of 80F temps. Always in the low 70F's and 60F's... and nights have been downright chilly (40's). If i was to compare the last few weeks, it would be best summed up as really nice October weather (cool/dry)...
Garden is doing good, just could use some more heat. You'd think with it being so dry, we would see higher temps....

Started off April on a cool note (we were a couple degrees below normal about a week back) but after the last few days i think that we are probably "normal" or a little above for the month of April. Now...yesterday was amazing!
Rochester, MN hit the record for the warmest April day on record with a high temp of 92F...!!!
La Crosse, WI (where i live) hit the daily record (old was 87F) with a temp of 90F, which ranks #7 on the list of warmest April days on record.
Today we FINALLY got rain...we are still severly below normal on precip, but the GFS is still showing some drought busting rains tomorrow and on Monday.
I planted tomatoes in the garden last weekend, the earliest i ever have.... The apricots and plums are blooming, pear/peach/apple are getting close. No late season cold snaps!

I know parts of France and Germany have been very warm lately.
We hit 67F today which is the warmest day so far this year. Should hit 70F the next 3 days. Avg is 59F. Still we are running below normal for the month in the temp dept, although by next week we will probably be about normal for the month.
The desert southwest (CA/AZ/etc) is looking to really start to bake in the next week. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 100F reading sometime soon (Yuma?)...

Been very dry here in the upper midwest. We are WAY behind on precip... Started around the 1st of the year, after a record DEC we just flipped to a dry/cool pattern... Haven't had snow in a long time... Should see our first 70F this week, which is probably a little late for here. Very odd spring.
We had a dewpoint of 5F today with a temp of 65F. Almost unheard of in this area.

GLC- What causes La Nina? Obviously it doesn't just magically appear... To use that as an excuse (for cooling) doesn't seem right...

All that i know is that this January has been insanely cold up here in Wisconsin. We are sitting at almost 9F BELOW NORMAL for the month of January, which is really saying something for someone who has ever been to Wisconsin in January. This comes after one of the top ten coldest Decembers on record. Minneapolis, MN has YET to hit 32F this month. climate.umn.edu/doc/journal/thaw0901.htm

Here in the midwest of the USA (southwest Wisconsin), December was the snowiest on record and the cold was ranked in the top 10 of coldest Decembers on record (think we were 7 or 8). Still staying chilly (-5F this morning) with a seasonal high of 24F today under sunny skies. Should stay below freezing for the next 7-10, with some subzero F readings possible and some snow (it seems that the switch for snow has been thrown...not much in the past week).
I'll go out on a limb and say January finishes around normal for temp and maybe even below normal for snowfall.

Here in the upper midwest of the USA its been a downright horrid cold month compared to normal. As you can see, those of us who reside along the Mississippi River (MN/WI border) are near 10F below normal. Huge snowstorm expected in the next few days, with this area getting around a foot.

So yesterday we peaked at 43F here in southwest WI and now this morning sit at -4F. Today should peak at 4F ("""normal""" for this time of year is 31F). Yesterday saw a front come through the north USA like no other i've seen. These are the temp changes over 24hrs. Just unbelievable. The GFS model is showing some EXTREME cold for my backyard in a week or so. Near record lows if correct (still doubtful..GFS has its issues!).
