129F (53C) in Pakistan. Similar temperatures across much of India. Would you mind sharing the source for that. I'm trying to find similar temperatures on Weather Underground, and I haven't found any place in Pakistan within 14 degrees F of that on June 2 (which I assume is the day you are talking about). Sibi shows 115 degrees on May 31, and thus far, that is the highest high I've found in this last week. On June 2 (today) it was 104. It also seems to have the highest forecast temperature for June 3 at 116 degrees which is still well below 129. Meanwhile, Chitral, Pakistan shows it only made it to 85 degrees F on June 2 and is forecast for a high of 75 degrees F on June 3. There isn't much historical data on WU to look at, though, so I can't really get much gauge whether they are having a normal, hotter than normal, or cooler than normal season. Granted, there are only 53 cities/sites reported at Weather Underground, and Pakistan is a big place. There may be someplace I'm missing, but I haven't found anyplace close to that temperature. I'm interested to see the source so I can compare with sources I'm more familiar with. Can you post it for us, please?

gfw, while interesting, none of those pages really contain data. The closest to data I see is the chart of record temperatures, but I'm not quite sure what the significance of number of record high vs. record low temperatures may be.
(BTW, you have to remove the period from the first URL to get it to work.)
The only one I'm able to really check on from the first URL is Hissar which did have one day reach the temps the article claimed, so I will have to keep that in mind. However; I don't have record or average data available for those places.

Here is how May finished... I still don't know what to think about June and the rest of summer here in WI. If anything i think it could end up around normal, but with temps jumping all over to get to those numbers. I just had the #3 warmest spring on record (behind 1977 and 1878)... While March felt warm, April didn't seem that special, and May was just a touch above norm.

West coast doesn't exactly look above normal like we've been told it was.

Looks like glc was right about that temp reported from Pakistan. I was looking at the wrong Guardian article www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/01/pakistan-record-temperatures-heatwaveslh1234, Ok, I'm just linking to news and other people's analyses. But as you did for the one city, it's all got to be verifiable or it won't enter the official record. I don't know where the GHCN stations in India are, but I bet those in the general vicinity of the news reports are reading pretty hot right now. The US numbers are from NCDC data, so they can be double checked by downloading from them.

Okay, then to correct things, On June 1, 2010, Mohenjo-daro, Pakistan recorded a temperature of 53.7 C. I haven't found a source for data for that location, or even for the areas around it (although looking at the area, it looks like its topology is much different from the surrounding areas, so it is likely temperatures vary pretty widely).
So the main part of the story:
But once again, I can't find records from that area to see where that stands compared to average temperatures (The article says 'above,' but is that .5 C, 10 C? We can't see).

West coast doesn't exactly look above normal like we've been told it was. Well, I live in one particular place on the West Coast and it's definitely been cooler than average in May. It was way warmer than average in January and February. March and April were roughly normal, maybe a little higher than average - I'd have to check the record books. This all makes good sense in terms of the evolution of El Nino over the past few months. But unfortunately explaining it rationally means you can't darkly suggest you're being lied to about the weather.

Still no sign of summer here in middle of Norway. We have not had a single day with 20c or above since that one day we had in may. Last week the weather station also recorded the coldest june night in 35 years. Nearly every month this year has set new record lows.
