Big Joe over at Weatherbell seems to think that the N, American winter will not be exceptionally cold on average (on his Saturday Summary at the end), but he thinks that there will be a lot of back and forth along north-south tracks, which apparently means a lot more snow.

We could do with some snow here atm. It is VERY dry and no sign of rain in the foreseeable future ....
Australia has never had droughts before.

I don't understand but I like your picture of the woodpecker. Avian humor. He didn't much buy that "2nd warmest September in recorded history" comment ... as we watched a quarter of the trees turning yellow and gold before the official end of summer. Says he's moving in.
