In the comments there is a link to Lockwood studies on low-solar blocking from 2010 with reference to NW Europe. Looks like we are there again. Have the data improved? Or the analysts? news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8615789.stm

Even though the season is not as active as previously expected, August and September are typically the most active months of the hurricane season. Some might say that with Atlantic ssta way low, similar hurricane levels were expected..... They havnt raised much, neither should expectations....

www.nhc.noaa.gov/Peak time in the 2018 Hurricane Season there would normally be a chain of 'Invest' tropical waves coming off the West African coast. But instead we have "No tropical cyclone activity expected in the next 48 hours". 10 weeks left in the 'season' 4 weeks left for the active part, and the Atlantic will start cooling further below the trigger temperatures of around 80F down to 300ft.
