The final prediction resulted from a debate between Hathaway and Leif Svalgaard, who urged a lower maximum. See: www.leif.org/research/Resulting prediction and current observations:

Again, the issue is not just "whether". The other issues are "how much" and "when". Just to be nasty, add "which direction".

Steam is the feature in a lot of power plant photos. And the nutty thing is.....most folks think it is pollution. Most folks don't recognize a cooling tower, even on a nuclear plant. Ideology clouds the mind.

Sloppy wording by the Congress on the Clean Air Act unlocked the door. The Supreme Court opened it for the EPA. The EPA exploited it to seize the means of production (and everything else) under Carol Browner. Carol Browner had been a Commissioner for the Socialist Internationale. The inclusion of CO2 as a Greenhouse Gas (by not excluding it) gave the EPA the legal authority to claim CO2 was a "pollutant" and therefore to regulate it. Justice Stevens. “MASSACHUSETTS ET AL. v. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY ET AL.,” April 2, 2007. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/06pdf/05-1120.pdf"Page 20, 21 (Opinion): Causation EPA does not dispute the existence of a causal connection between man-made greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. At a minimum, therefore, EPA’s refusal to regulate such emissions “contributes” to Massachusetts’ injuries. EPA nevertheless maintains that its decision not to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from new motor vehicles contributes so insignificantly to petitioners’ injuries that the agency cannot be haled into federal court to answer for them. For the same reason, EPA does not believe that any realistic possibility exists that the relief petitioners seek would mitigate global climate change and remedy their injuries. That is especially so because predicted increases in greenhouse gas emissions from developing nations, particularly China and India, are likely to offset any marginal domestic decrease. But EPA overstates its case...."

icefisher: Ah, brave new world. Herd the prols into cities under the banner of Forward! to a low emissions world. Ehrlich, P.R., and A.H. Ehrlich. “The Population Bomb Revisited.” The Electronic Journal of Sustainable Development 1, no. 3 (2009): 63–71. dea.org.au/news/article/the_population_bomb_revisited_by_paul_r._ehrlich_and_anne_h._ehrlich"Page 68: "On the population side, it is clear that avoiding collapse would be a lot easier if humanity could entrain a gradual population decline toward an optimal number. Our group’s analysis of what that optimum population size might be like comes up with 1.5 to 2 billion, less than one third of what it is today. We attempted to find a number that would maximize human options – enough people to have large, exciting cities and still maintain substantial tracts of wilderness for the enjoyment of outdoors enthusiasts and hermits (Daily et al. 1994). Even more important would be the ability to maintain sustainable agricultural systems and the crucial life support services from natural ecosystems that humanity is so dependent upon. But too many people, especially those in positions of power, remain blissfully unaware of that dependence."

I don't want the EPA shutdown either but your idea is interesting. No need to shut it down entirely. Amend the Clean Air Act. Remove the reference to Greenhouse gasses; replace by a list. Omit CO2. Delete regulations controlling fossil fuels. Let the busy beavers regulating fossil fuels find other work outside Federal employment. Use the savings to decrease the national debt.

Precaution, Post Normal Science & Possible Cooling solarcycle24com.proboards.com/thread/1948/precaution-post-normal-science-coolingPreface to the thread: Cass Sunstein (Formerly Regulatory Czar) wrote: "Precautions, in other words, themselves create risks - and hence the principle bans what it simultaneously requires" (Sunstein, 2008). The current situation is a case in point. - Multiple current observations suggest we could be entering a cold spell capable of reversing warming and introducing a cold period. Some suggest that period could last 30-50 years. We may find we zigged when we should have zagged.
- Under the Precautionary Principle (PP) and Post Normal Science (PNS), "Global Warming" policy action is contradicted by precursors and observations of steady or cooling trends. Historically, cooling adversely affects both environment and the human population. PNS and the PP principles would have governments act to prevent global warming and global cooling simultaneously. However, EPA carbon regulations will cripple the U.S. economy and its citizens, reducing our means to adapt to either.
- Applying PNS and PP criteria, the correct ("no regrets") policies are to abandon regulatory mandates for fossil fuel reductions and encourage unbiased, more comprehensive climate research. Citizens, on the other hand, are at liberty to choose adaptive actions such as more efficient automobiles, insulation, sealing and heating and cooling systems when and if they find it desirable.
What follows ( in the rest of the thread) does not require that either cooling or warming scenarios be "scientifically proven". Indeed, each scenario requires opposite policy actions under the Precautionary Principle and Post Normal Science.

Oh boy.......like there aren't enough regulations and added costs now.........sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. Doesn't this guy want to economy to EVER recover? ?? No. In a Marxist society, everyone is dependent upon the government and its bureaucracy. This result is considered " Forward".

Karlox: "double peak for maximum SC24?". Yes. Phillips, Dr. Tony. “Solar Cycle Update: Twin Peaks?” Scientific. NASA Science, March 1, 2013. science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2013/01mar_twinpeaks/"Something unexpected is happening on the sun. 2013 is supposed to be the year of Solar Max, the peak of the 11-year sunspot cycle. Yet 2013 has arrived and solar activity is relatively low. Sunspot numbers are well below their values in 2011, and strong solar flares have been infrequent for many months.
"The quiet has led some observers to wonder if forecasters missed the mark. Solar physicist Dean Pesnell of the Goddard Space Flight Center has a different explanation:
"'This is solar maximum," he suggests. "But it looks different from what we expected because it is double peaked.'"

And the solution to reckless spending and insurmountable debt? Anyone? Anyone?
A Carbon Tax! EPA control of energy! Allocation of energy to favorites, contributors, and cronies! Confiscation of retirement accounts!
Expansion of Obamacare's NPAB. (If the cold does not get rid of the seniors, executive action will.)
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
