Does anyone have the present % earth cloud cover, as compared to "mean"? The reason I ask is because of the (anectdotal) sample I saw of worldwide locations (from the Baton Rouge, LA paper), where only 5 of about 50 locations showed "clear".

Well the weather models seem to be pointing to a colder period across europe and the UK over the next few weeks Nope Next weekend temperatures over 5 degrees of celsius. Wonderful and just like two winters ago: southwest flowing. I wrote email to Joe Bastardi. He said to me, that first two week of December will be cold, but I don't think he's right. I hope mountains will survive this thaw

Ski resorts across Europe are opening early after snowfalls of a metre and more in the past week. Andorra has had two metres of snow, and both of its ski areas opened last weekend, the best start to a season for more than 40 years. More than 200 resorts will also open early this weekend in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Switzerland. The story is repeated in Canada and New England, where a metre of snow also fell at the weekend. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/winter_sports/article5238245.eceYou Northies enjoy. We in the South (OZ+NZ) had our share.

People may not remember that, two years ago, the ski resorts in Eurpope had a miserable ski season. For some of the resorts at lower altitudes, there was very little skiing at all. This was declared by the warnaholics to be another "tipping point". They declared that the ski resorts at the lower altitudes might just as well go out of business, as there would not be enough snow in future years to make it worth their while to operate. Last year was one of the earliest and best ski seasons on record in Europe, and this year seems to be starting out the same. So much for another warmaholic "tipping point".

Yes, I posted about this in late 2007 somewhere. The U.N. actually had a large GW meeting in Switzerland I believe and informed the ski resorts they should look to another way to make a living. Within the next week or two they had record snow ;D Here's the news about the snow. www.neurope.eu/view_news.php?id=79916Another one about how dismal the future was for ski resorts; a guy buys one for $1. www.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/world/europe/22ernen.htmlMoving ahead: www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news/travel/Record_snow_storm_triggers_delays.html?siteSect=414&sid=9908046&cKey=1225374542000&ty=ndAccording to MeteoNews, the Swiss lowlands received the most snow for any October since records began in 1931. Zurich received 20cm, beating a record of 14cm set in 1939 Yes, the climate is changing, but not in the way its supposed to according to AGW doomology. Now if I could only find that U.N. report from Oct/Nov 2007. Here are the references. It was hilarious to read about this, just like the GW protesters get frozen out, or Al Gore schedules his GW summit during a huge snow storm. ;D ;D www.nytimes.com/2007/11/01/business/01tourism.htmlnewsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/11/18/un-discusses-global-warming-spain-snows-pummel-switzerlandThe U.N. meeting. Note the bottom of the report....its too funny. arrangements have been made to compensate for the CO2 emissions resulting from our travel to Davos. www.news-service.admin.ch/NSBSubscriber/message/attachments/9729.pdf

Looks like another cold snap is on it's way for the beginning of December in the UK. Central europe has snow so an east wind will be cold. The best start to a winter for years, can it last?

Yeah and most of Europe will maintain its comfortable temps until 5 December the least... Southwest winds will prevail. We have a weak and small cold spell here in southeast europe right now , it is gonna leave until Saturday-Sunday. Rains maybe, but i do not expect any relatively good cold spell at least until the end of the first week of December in Europe. UK will be an exception since there will be a constant cold air mass hitting it, especially northern parts, but still not very cold in comparion with previous air cold masses. So if western Europe is going to be affected too a little after the start of December, i do not expect it to be very cold. But that, you can not count it as not natural or anything, i mean the absence of good cold spells for that period for that time.

Moscow and much of Russia remain amazingly warm. Is that metric from satellite or from the GISS extrapolated and interpolated temperatures from September I figured someone would bring that up. Moscow has averaged 7 to 10 degrees celsius above average for a good ten weeks. GISS's October surprise may have been hatched with the knowledge that people would know there was a veritable heat wave there and with the hope that the institute could get away with one. Luckily too many people are paying attention for that. But seriously Moscow is supposed to be in the 5-8-degrees-above zero, celsius, on Tuesday, for instance, with rain. They've been failing to go below freezing with their morning minimum again and again. Very odd for the season.

Well regardless of Moscow western Europe is definitely colder than the last few years ;D Plus we've had the earliest snowfall in my living memory (which stretches back to the late 1960's). It's a case of quality rather than quantity

Despite what is happening to the world right now... can someone tell me, are these huge cold massess being created in such an enormous rate in the Arctic Cycle normal ? normal for that increasing rate in that time? Did you guys notice? I havent seen such changes in the recordings in weather history before. At least not the last 30 years maybe? Forecasts keep showing the cold masses getting extremely bigger in very fast time. Is that my imagination or is it strange? I had the feeling asking that... If you have any infos about it or havent notice this yet. look by your own and tell me. These cold masses will sure have a positive impact to sea ice extent, there is no doubt for that.
