well according to the news the uk will receive snow next week. early oct wow .. just like when i was in canada .. now where did that gulf stream go .. Where?? Outlook is zonal, and its late October now Flea π Around here, October used to be a warm transition month. Mid to late November was when periodic cold pulses would move through. So one month ahead of the old schedule.

Meanwhile, in not-so-sunny Melbourne, we have the heating on full blast - its only 14 degC outside, and pouring.
Normally, we would be turning on the air-con regularly by now.
However, one silver lining is that we may have some more [slight] easing of our Stage 4 restrictions from Monday. We might even be able to go into other family houses!! [under strict social distancing, of course].

Not sure of your source, but if anyone predicts snow outside of 5 days, they're providing some certainty where there can be none. 3 days is still iffy especially at this time of year where conditions would be extremely marginal. Trust me, if things look interesting I'd be spamming this site with model output π

Copying tweets works for me, its not like I'm trying to generate followers with a consistent appearance or anything!

"The U.S. National Temperature Index, is it based on data? Or corrections?
The United States has a very dense population of weather stations, data from them is collected and processed by NOAA/NCEI to compute the National Temperature Index. The index is an average temperature for the nation and used to show if the U.S. is warming. The data is stored by NOAA/NCEI in their GHCN or βGlobal Historical Climatology Networkβ database. GHCN-Daily contains the quality-controlled raw data, which is subsequently corrected and then used to populate GHCN-Monthly, a database of monthly averages, both raw and final. I downloaded version 4.0.1 of the GHCN-Monthly database on October 10, 2020. At that time, it had 27,519 stations globally and 12,514 (45%) of them were in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Of the 12,514 U.S. stations, 11,969 of them are in βCONUS,β the conterminous lower 48 states. The current station coverage is shown in Figure 1. We have several questions about the land-based temperature record, which dominates the long-term (~170-year) global surface temperature record. The land-based measurements dominate because sea-surface temperatures are very sparse until around 2004 to 2007, when the ARGO network of floats became complete enough to provide good data. Even in 2007, the sea-surface gridding error was larger than the detected ocean warming."More here> wattsupwiththat.com/2020/11/24/the-u-s-national-temperature-index-is-it-based-on-data-or-corrections/
