Socold quote: What I can confidentally say is that ENSO events mask the multi-decadal warming trend and so taking any interval of 3 years, 5 years or even 10 years is unwise (additionally such short periods suffer from solar cycle noise too)ee unquotea Please Socold, translate this to us ´general public- learners´ I would appreciate it very much if you make a headline and clear explanation of what you meant. no kiddin´.

Thanks. And pfft everyone knows aliens look like this: They're Not Here They're Not Coming (don henley/stan lynch) They're not here, they're not coming Not in a million years Turn your weary eyes back homeward Stop your trembling, dry your tears You may see the heavens flashing You may hear the cosmos humming But I promise you, my brother They're not here, they're not coming Did see the solar wind drop down to 262km/sec the other day and that was a bit disconcerting. Anyone see it drop below that recently? 7.10.2010 Solar wind speed: 262.2 km/sec density: 2.6 protons/cm3 www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=10&month=07&year=2010just for ´learners´... what the hell are you talking about? Sorry, I admit I admire poetry...

Saddly enough are increasing damages to come if the area is hitted by any big storm -not even yet hurricanes- which -I suppose- is a possibility being currently discussed by US State and Federal Agencies involved. Is it?

What method did you use? I posted mine and knew it would be close, but no cigar for you.
Below is a real trend analysis. Yours is a bull-in-the-china-shop cherry picking extravaganza. TREND ANALYSIS OF SATELLITE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE DATA « Last Edit: Yesterday at 10:49pm by magellan » Link to Post - Back to Top Logged Magellan, thanks for the link, it´s really worth reading and induces further thinking on AGW CO2 theory... Probably is a well known Analysis for most of you, but as I am just a "beginner" learning basics then I highly and specially appreciate scientific-types approaches and enjoy its ´wording´ (versus political working) for defending either AGW or Skeptical points of view as in this case. Something else I regard as very very interesting is the highly Pro-Nature, Pro-ecological profile of Craig Loehle, and that is against what most AGW proponents feel and believe about Skepticals, me included, I admit... though still learning and thus being rather an ´agnostic´ than either a true believer or the opposite.

Our President Zapatero could be as ´socialist´ as President Abraham Lincon could be -supposedly- the great leader of the USA ´Democratic Party´ for many Europeans... Somethimes ´words´ are loaded as guns... no room for open discussion left. Both depiction of the Spanish problem dealing with our energy needs and the comparison with USA needs and current status is pure nonsense and manipulation through the complete referred article. Cheap politics, that is! Couple of hints: Obama´s supporting Nuke Power... Zapatero isn´t. USA´s got Oil Reservoirs for the future and is currently exploiting some of their ressourses... (and some of them, by the way, seem to be ´exploiting´ the other way round now. Ref: Mexican Gulf BP). Spain´s got no oil within its national territory... but keep on comparing... cheap politics could afford and take it for sure! Lincoln was a Republican. I know... that was the point!

hi Sigur! I am not acquainted of the litthium mines problem, please address me to some web site to learn about it. I do know something about Coltan mines... same as diamonds mines... think about it often whereas I contemplate the vision of dozens of african inmigrants (mostly black people) gathering in the Plaza beneath my window... not that I feel personally responsible for such an unbearable misery driving thousands of human beings to put in risk their lives for the sake of a better living and the ´pursuit of happinnes´ which in 2010 we all -I hope- accept as an acceptable Global goal for mankind, not just for a few. I am so so so skeptical with both some AGW freaks and ´skeptics´ as well...

"Obama’s Spanish disaster" "In short, we learned of reports that the socialist Zapatero government has laid the groundwork for abandoning its vaunted “green jobs” schemes, admitting in an official if not yet released document the damning criticisms levied by an academic team. Their research had received great attention—and prompted vicious smear campaigns—both here and in Spain. That is very bad news for the Obama administration whose leader on eight separate occasions instructed us to “think about what’s happening in countries like Spain” if we wanted to see his model and vision for a “green economy.” He would launch America into a new era of prosperity premised in “new technologies” like windmills—yes, he actually said that. This line was promoted at the expense of other Obama claims, like his vow in San Francisco to use such schemes to cause “electricity prices [to] necessarily skyrocket.” Which, it turns out, Spain’s “green economy” also managed to do. At least, it caused electricity prices to rise leading the Spanish government—in order to avoid paying the political price—to set the rates far below the actual costs of producing inefficient energy from intermittent sources requiring massive physical redundancy (the wind blows when it feels like it). So they ran up a massive “rate deficit.” In testimony to the U.S. House the lead Spanish researcher, Madrid economics professor Dr. Gabriel Calzada, revealed how paying this debt down would require raising Spanish electricity rates another 31 percent. Here we see the beginnings of “skyrocketing” rates" dailycaller.com/2010/05/05/obamas-spanish-disaster/Our President Zapatero could be as ´socialist´ as President Abraham Lincon could be -supposedly- the great leader of the USA ´Democratic Party´ for many Europeans... Not quite politics but I often wonder if it is not the drive.....not enumerated was the fear of CO2 and reasons for why it is catastrophic. "Global warming fears seen in obsessive compulsive disorder patients A recent study has found that global warming has impacted the nature of symptoms experienced by obsessive compulsive disorder patients. Climate change related obsessions and/or compulsions were identified in 28% of patients presenting with obsessive compulsive disorder. Their obsessions included leaving taps on and wasting water, leaving lights on and wasting electricity, pets dying of thirst, leaving the stove on and wasting gas as well as obsessions that global warming had contributed to house floors cracking, pipes leaking, roof problems and white ants eating the house." www.voxy.co.nz/national/psychiatry-congress/5/47523Uff! Glad to know some people just cares and ´scares´ with/of such a big deals as the obsessive behaviours comprehensibly described in the above post from Trbxlr. Let for some of us the burden of rather being worried about some sort of oil leak we have heard is taking place somewhere nearby Obama´s Socialist Republic... for example... Free your mind!

An article posted yesterday in a spanish newspaper reported the large difference between current eruption and Pinatubo´s regarding both height of of ash-clouds and tons of material being thrown out into upper atmosphere; it concludes that Iceland´s volcano is still far from affecting Earth´s Global Mean Temperature the way Pinatubo in the Phillippines did a few years ago. Something I haven´t heard before was that a collateral damage of Sulfurs reaching upper atmosphere was its interaction with CFCs multiplying CFCs molecules effect on destroying the Ozone layer, it reported.

Radar of Flights over Europe-Great Britain very quiet , Norways' moving again ( at time of posting ): www.flightradar24.com/Grounding that many aircraft is costing a million dollars an hour. Tomorrow ( Monday ) , they hope to have 50% of the flights moving. Jet stream forecast: www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/jetstream.aspHopefully a predicted mid-Atlantic high -wednesday ,pm, will move the ash north. It'll probably touch Gander , Newfoundland , there'll probably be a Notice to Air Men -Canadian East coast . Germany and Belgium have just confirmed their airspace shall remain closed til at last 8pm today, all Transport Ministers of the European Union holding a telecom conference this morning to evaluate the situation. Thanks for the links! I would say that it seems Central and Southern Europe -Spain included- will remain affected until at last next friday according to jet-stream prediction... next week-end it looks like the ash clould will then move more north-eastwards affecting mainly Scandinavia and Polar Circle nearby areas. By the way, complete technical information regarding each volcanic episode is updated via ASHTAM, while NOTAM would rather reflect Airway Tracks Closure or define prohibited fying areas or Airports closures etc related to either volcanic activity or any other cause. There have never been such a large impact on Civil Aviation due to either a natural or non natural reason, terrorist attack on September 11th included. Would like to have some expert´s opinion on how much ashes, how high up they must get, how long should it keep on going etc in order to consider a temporal effect on Earth´s mean temperature for the next months or year.

I think the joke is - The Brits asked for cash not ash ! This way sounds much better: short and brilliant (mine was sort of a translation from an spanish news reporter on TV)

If I were Polish I would certainly be entittled to discuss and talk about what the next Scare might be... Incredible Global Civilization of ours: Poland loses its main leaders when their aircraft crashes nearby the russian forest were 20.000 polish officers were massacred by Stalin´s troops... they were bound to a reconciliation act. Next most leaders worldwide get a nice ´excuse´ not to assist to the official burial and funeral of Polish President and rest of the victims due to an Icelandic Volcano that shuts down northern and central European Airspace for first time in history... What´s next? This Story itself looks like a nice start of a bestseller! Our high degree of Global interdependence in many related fields (economy, health, supplies) is our weakest point; compare what would be the effect of a volcano eruption of this kind or even a large intensive Earth´s directed Solar Storm only 100 years ago with what actually occurs or might occur... We are much more fragile now. That´s the scare to come, my bet.

I haven't seen anything about cooling effects, so I'm guessing that the plume hasn't gone particularly high into the atmosphere. Press news releases say it climbed up to 11km first days and it is currently reaching 5-7km (round 550Hpa and up). Guess it´s too soon to determine any cooling effect either global or affecting only Northern Hemisphere or part of it. Guess this possible cooling effect depends mainly on how long and strong will this volcanic episode be and last and wouldn´t be really detectable after a few months... Who knows, we may be bound to 2010 being known in the future as the ´year without summer´ again... My questions and concerns ares: What if this last for weeks or even months? What if this volcanic episode gets even stronger and Katlay displays its nice and overdued big eruption? Economic impact might be enourmous worldwide if this scenario does not comes to its end soon... Worried as well about how could this affect islanders if weather conditions there change and the main volcanic ashes cloud plunges into -for example- Reykjavik Area where two thirds of total Iceland population lives, that counts for around 200.000 people... Heard an Islandic joke this days going something like ´Iceland is sending back to the British the ashes of their Finantial System´ ;D (remember that due to Iceland´s bankruptcy declaration many British Funds and clients were affected and they are currently demanding and negotiating with the Icelandic Government the return of the funds and the Debt) My best wishes to Iceland and its great people

That blows their CO2 budget. Negative. They will more likely trade with their extra quota of volcano-ashes wich are said to ´cool´ earth´s atmosphere, as opposite to CO2... They won´t give up, that´s for sure! Nice land Iceland indeed!
